Summary

Indian Springs Elementary in San Antonio, TX, is a high-performing school serving 649 students in grades PK through 5, part of the highly-ranked Comal Independent School District (Isd) which sits in the 89th percentile statewide. The school has earned a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for five consecutive years and ranks in the 96th percentile statewide, making it the top performer in its immediate area, outpacing nearby schools like Hardy Oak Elementary (94th percentile) and Roan Forest Elementary (93rd percentile).

One of the most notable features of Indian Springs is its exceptional early academic performance, particularly in 3rd grade, where 86.14% of students were proficient in Reading and 73.05% in Math—significantly higher than the next closest school, Hardy Oak, at 74.19% in Reading. The school also excels in supporting its most vulnerable learners, ranking in the 98th percentile for low socio-economic status students and the 95th percentile for special education students, demonstrating a strong ability to close achievement gaps. However, there is a slight dip in 4th grade Math proficiency (55.19%), which is below the district average and lower than nearby schools like Johnson Ranch Elementary (68.67%) and Mh Specht Elementary (72.22%), suggesting a potential curriculum transition point worth noting.

Indian Springs benefits from being part of Comal ISD, which provides a strong support system compared to nearby schools in North East Independent School District (Isd), ranked in the 57th percentile. For example, Indian Springs' 5th grade Science scores (59.06%) were well above the state average (29.57%) and higher than every nearby North East ISD school, including Hardy Oak (52.99%). The school also achieves these results with lower spending per student ($7,748) than some peers, such as Kinder Ranch Elementary ($9,376), pointing to efficient resource use. While the school's performance with English Language Learners has shown volatility—ranking in the 100th percentile in 2021-2022 but dropping to the 13th percentile the next year—this is likely due to a small student population in that subgroup. Overall, Indian Springs stands out as a consistent, high-achieving school in a competitive neighborhood of excellent options.

Open Quote We absolutely love this school! My 6th grade daughter scored perfect 100% grades on her STAAR tests thanks, in large part, to the excellent education she had received at Indian Springs. My 4th grade son has thrived at this school and loves the Sage (GT) program at the school. The principal, teachers, and staff have been extremely responsive and supportive of the students. As a military family, this is the third elementary school my children attended and it stands head and shoulders above the rest. Close Quote

Open Quote We absolutely love Indian Springs Elementary! It's such a great school with caring teachers and a fantastic principal. My children have been challenged at the school. We love the violin program for the older grades and the Gifted and Talented program for qualifying students in all the grades. Close Quote
