Summary

Seadrift School is a small, rural PK-8 school in Calhoun County Independent School District (Isd), serving 202 students in the tight-knit community of Seadrift, TX, where about 66% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in grades 6 through 8, where students dramatically outperform both district and state averages. For example, 78% of 8th graders were proficient in reading, and 67% were proficient in math—nearly triple the district's 8th-grade math average. The school also achieved a perfect 100% proficiency rate on the Algebra I End-of-Course exam. However, early elementary math is a significant challenge: only 24% of 3rd graders were proficient, compared to 50% in the district. This creates a "V-shaped" performance profile, where the school struggles early but excels later. The school also has a very low student-teacher ratio of 12.2:1, which is much smaller than nearby Jackson/Roosevelt Elementary (16.8:1) and Harrison/Jefferson/Madison Elementary (15.4:1).

Compared to its regional neighbors, Seadrift is a relative success story. While Bloomington Elementary in Bloomington Independent School District (Isd) ranks in the 4th percentile with very low test scores, Seadrift provides a much stronger educational foundation. Yet, the school lags behind Port O Connor School, a similar rural campus in the same district that ranks in the 97th percentile. Seadrift has also shown a remarkable turnaround for its Special Education and low-income students, who jumped from the bottom of the state rankings to the 50th percentile over two years. The school maintains a perfect 0% dropout rate, keeping students engaged through 8th grade.
