As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote On the surface (from test scores), this appears to be a wonderful school. However, this deceives many and here's why.

First off, the school administration in terms of managing discipline is very poor: it depends on who you are in part and on the other hand, if the administration thinks it's a matter to be addressed. It's known some kids are sent to the office and returned to class without even a slap on the wrist and others get walloped for very little. Bullying is not cracked down on and my daughter had to leave for the other high school in town because she was constantly bullied because the other girls didn't think her clothes were as stylish, they thought her accent too "country" and they made fun of her because they perceived her as stupid. Although this was regularly reported, nothing was done to the group of girls doing the bullying--and they bullied many others at school--yet go to stay with very little to stop them. Basically if you as a student aren't like "the rest," you'll probably be bullied in some way and current administration does nothing about it and pretty much sweeps it under the rug.

While it is very competitive here among the AP and pre-AP students, some of those same students report a few teachers allow cheating in class, know of it and don't stop it. Some students say they feel cheating is ok to get better scores and to improve their class ranking. But why is this ok? Two other things that bother me: one is you basically have two "populations" at the school--one is easy to work with (pre-Ap/AP) and the regular classes which present problems. Some of those kids act like they should get grades for nothing and cause teachers lots of grief for no reason. The second thing is that this school seems to spit out a fair # of teachers each year because of the negativity that exists there (for whatever reason), which seems to be due to sometimes adversarial administration that doesn't help them with discipline, and some really good teachers have been asked to go just because admin could tell them to go and not because they needed to go--just because the admin team didn't like them.

Bottom line: this school has a lot that needs fixing, especially the bullying, the definite lack of consistent discipline--and sometimes the obvious lack thereof--and getting the regular students in line so teachers don't have so much stress from them. Fix these things and this will truly become a top-tier TX high school until then, it's ranking is more like the middle 50 because of the poor discipline management of the student body. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
