Summary

Academy At Carrie F Thomas is an elementary school in North Richland Hills, TX, serving 586 students in grades PK-5 within the Birdville Independent School District (Isd), where a high percentage of students (75.6%) qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school has experienced a significant and concerning decline in academic performance in recent years. Its overall state ranking has dropped from the 64th percentile in 2018-2019 to the 18th percentile in 2025-2026, its lowest point in a decade. This decline is evident across most subjects and student groups. For example, only 25% of 3rd graders are proficient in math, compared to the district average of 48%. This performance gap is especially stark when compared to nearby schools within the same district. For instance, Walker Creek Elementary (less than a mile away) ranks in the 77th percentile, and Smithfield Elementary (1.5 miles away) ranks in the 88th percentile. Even other high-poverty schools in the area, like Jack C Binion Elementary, serve their students better, ranking in the 37th percentile.

Despite these challenges, there are some bright spots. The school's bilingual program appears to be a relative strength, with Spanish-language STAAR test scores in 4th grade reading and 5th grade math exceeding both district and state averages. Additionally, the school's per-student spending is higher than many of its higher-performing peers, suggesting that the issue is not a lack of funding but likely relates to how resources are used or the impact of external factors like high student mobility. For parents considering this school, it is important to be aware of the recent academic decline and to investigate the specific programs and supports available, particularly for English-language learners and students needing extra academic help.

Open Quote My son has been at this school for more then 6 mos, the bulling in the school is out of control, and teachers are apart of using bulling to get the children to behave. snapping fingers in students faces but during parent teacher week they are all smiles and taking GREAT about our children. I am in a parent group and we have to pay close attention to our children to make sure they are being treated in a repectful manner. Close Quote

Open Quote The worst school i have ever seen in my entire life! Teachers with bad attitudes. Always calling my cell for a conference about my child. Negative remarks regarding my child learning even tho progress is being made. Harassing phone calls nearly on a daily basis from teachers.I am not a neglect full parent, i go to the conferences and maintain communication with the teacher to just keep getting call after call for nothing important! Open Quote My children have been attending ACFT since the beginning of the school year. I have been harassed by two members of this school over a reading log. The teachers were not even my child's home room teacher. And when we were fed up with the harassment we called the school, just to hear that the principal wouldn't be there for 2wks!!!! Nor did I receive a call back from the principal regarding the matter at hand. I have received NUMEROUS calls that were rude, and out of line. my child is behind in reading and i am to blame? I send my children to school to learn for nearly 8hrs a day and two days a week they have been going to tutoring. Plus what we practice at home! and it does not seem to be enough. WHAT ARE MY CHILDREN LEARNING DURING SCHOOL HOURS???? A BIT OF HELP AT HOME wouldn't HURT, BUT I DO NOT HAVE 8 HRS A DAY TO TUTOR MY CHILD! what are they paying the teachers to do? surely harassment does not fall in their job description.
