Summary

Caldwood Elementary is a public elementary school in Beaumont, Texas, serving 609 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Beaumont Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 857 out of 961 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Caldwood Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of Texas elementary schools, with its students performing significantly below state and district averages on STAAR tests across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, only 28.05% of 5th-grade students at Caldwood were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 57.83% statewide. The school's low academic performance is particularly pronounced for certain student subgroups, such as African American and Hispanic students, as well as students with special needs. Additionally, Caldwood has a very high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, ranging from 87.6% to 91.79% in recent years, which is much higher than the state and district averages.

While the nearby schools within the Beaumont ISD, such as Martin Elementary, Fletcher Elementary, and Dr. Mae E. Jones-Clark Elementary, also perform poorly on academic measures, one exception is Regina Howell Elementary, which consistently ranks in the top 50% of Texas elementary schools and outperforms Caldwood and the district on STAAR tests. Additionally, the Ehrhart School, a charter school outside the Beaumont ISD, significantly outperforms Caldwood and the district on academic measures, suggesting that school choice and alternative educational models may be more effective in this area.
