Summary

Bay City High School is a public high school in Bay City, Texas, serving 1,034 students in grades 9-12 and part of the Bay City Independent School District, which is ranked 690 out of 961 districts in the state.

While Bay City High School has some strengths, such as strong performance for Gifted and Talented students, the school has consistently underperformed compared to state and district averages on STAAR End-of-Course exams, with proficiency rates significantly lower in subjects like Algebra I, English I Reading, and U.S. History. The school's graduation and dropout rates have also fluctuated, generally on par with or slightly worse than state and district averages. Additionally, the school serves a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, which may contribute to its academic challenges.

Interestingly, there are several smaller, higher-performing high schools within a 20-mile radius of Bay City High School, such as Sweeny High School and Tidehaven High School, which have stronger academic proficiency rates, graduation rates, and overall SchoolDigger rankings. This suggests that Bay City High School may have opportunities for improvement through targeted interventions and support, especially given its success with Gifted and Talented students.

Open Quote The entire school seems to be on a downward slide as far as safety for the children, leadership direction from administrators, educational standards and athletics. In the past this school was highly recognized and respected with all kinds of awards both academic and athletic. The school has been on a steady decline for years with Parents moving their children to surrounding schools and appears to be no improvement in the near future. Close Quote
