Summary

Clemons Creek Middle in Anna, TX, serves 614 students in grades 6-8 within the Anna Independent School District (Isd), a district ranked in the bottom 20% of Texas, and is located in a rapidly growing area near high-performing neighbors like Melissa Middle and Van Alstyne J H.

Clemons Creek is a school of stark contrasts. Its most impressive feature is an exceptional Algebra I program: 84.62% of 8th graders taking the exam were proficient, nearly double the district average and on par with top-tier schools like Dr Jack Cockrill Middle in McKinney Independent School District (Isd). However, this success does not extend to the majority of students. In standard grade-level math, only about 15% of 6th graders and 20% of 8th graders met state benchmarks—rates far below the state average and among the lowest in the area. This creates a "two-tiered" academic profile where high-achieving students are well-served, but the general math curriculum is failing most learners. Reading scores are a relative strength, with 7th and 8th graders performing close to the state average and above the district average, suggesting literacy instruction is more effective than math instruction.

The school's performance varies dramatically by student group. Gifted and Talented students have ranked in the top 20% of the state, but support for Special Education and economically disadvantaged students has declined sharply, with Special Education students ranking in the bottom 12% of Texas. Compared to its district peer, Slayter Creek Middle, Clemons Creek is the higher-performing school overall, especially in 8th-grade reading and social studies. Yet, the gap with nearby high-performing schools like Van Alstyne Middle (86th percentile) is significant, highlighting the challenge of competing with more affluent neighbors. The school's primary challenge is to translate its Algebra I success into stronger foundational math skills for all students, particularly those who need the most support.

Open Quote Ehhh. It's ok. This is a new school. What I know and like about it: It seems clean inside, and the band instructors seem to be on top of teaching the kids.
What I don't like: My kid comes home and talks about how different the kids are at this school, either they're happy or they're severely depressed. It seems there is some racial tensions at this school as well, with the kids. Our kid came home and said they've seen kids get picked on because they are white. They said there are a lot of kids who also disrespect the teachers. Right now it just feels like the school needs to get a better grasp on their student body and teaching all around respectful behavior for all. Our kid says they see it so often here, its almost normal. I hope the school starts correcting the culture the kids are starting to instill on the school, while the school is still new. They have a chance to correct it now before it becomes normalized behavior from the students, so I hope they do. Close Quote
