Summary

Harmony Science Academy - Odessa is a K-8 charter school in Odessa, TX, serving 541 students as part of the Harmony Public Schools - West Texas district, and it has shown a strong upward trend in state rankings over the past five years, climbing from the 13th percentile to the 38th percentile.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced math, with Algebra I proficiency rates consistently near 100%—far above state averages. However, this strength is not uniform across all subjects or grades. For example, while 8th graders excel in math (67% proficient) and Algebra I (100% proficient), they struggle in 8th-grade Social Studies (22% proficient). The school also shows a unique "middle school bump" in math: 7th-grade proficiency drops to just 3.85%, likely because top students take Algebra I, leaving a smaller group for the standard test. Compared to nearby schools like El Magnet At Reagan Elementary (a top-performing magnet school with 92-97% reading proficiency), Harmony offers a more stable, mid-tier option, while many Ector County Independent School District (Isd) schools like Burnet Elementary and Dowling Elementary fluctuate wildly in rankings.

Harmony Science Academy is particularly effective at supporting its African American students, who ranked in the 97th percentile statewide in 2023-2024. However, support for other groups is inconsistent: Hispanic students rank in the 28th percentile, and English Language Learners dropped from the 81st to the 47th percentile. The school operates with lower per-student spending (around $10,500) than many nearby schools but maintains a smaller student-to-teacher ratio (17.7:1), suggesting efficient resource use. While it serves a predominantly low-income student body (over 73% qualify for free or reduced lunch), its overall performance provides a reliable educational option in a volatile district, though families should note the uneven results across subjects and grade levels.

Open Quote They don't even teach the students. The priority is the STARR test. Students with learning disabilities are overlooked, ignored and they adamantly refuse to test for learning disabilities. The children got less than 30 minutes for lunch and accommodations are not made for most physically disabled children. Close Quote
