Summary

KIPP Oak Cliff Academy is a public charter high school in Dallas, TX (serving grades 9-12 with 340 students) that is part of the KIPP Texas Public Schools district, and it has recently shown a dramatic academic turnaround, jumping from the 17th to the 31st percentile statewide between the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. This improvement is most notable in STEM subjects, with Algebra I proficiency soaring from 13.89% to 52.17% and Biology from 37.89% to 68.85%, making it the largest single-year rank improvement among nearby schools. The school invests heavily in its students, spending $14,307 per pupil and maintaining a low student-teacher ratio of 11.7:1, which is significantly better than nearby traditional public schools like South Oak Cliff High School (15:1 ratio) and Lancaster High School ($9,633 per student).

While the school's overall performance is improving, it faces persistent challenges, particularly in English Language Arts, where English I (34.78% proficient) and English II (37.63%) remain weak spots. This creates an interesting contrast with nearby Gateway Charter Academy - Middle - High School, which outperforms KIPP in reading (46.67% and 50% proficient) but falls behind in math and science. The school also serves its Special Education students exceptionally well, ranking in the 55th percentile statewide, though support for English Language Learners has declined to the 19th percentile. A significant concern is the school's 3.1% dropout rate, which is much higher than the district average of 1.2% and far above nearby high-performing schools like Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy At A Maceo Smith (0.0% dropout rate).

Located in a diverse educational landscape, KIPP Oak Cliff sits within a 2-mile radius of both top-tier schools like Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy (5-star, 96th percentile) and struggling ones like Wilmer-Hutchins High School (10th percentile). The school's recent gains suggest it is leveraging its resources effectively, but parents should weigh the promising academic momentum against the retention issues and literacy gaps. For families prioritizing STEM education and small class sizes, KIPP Oak Cliff offers a compelling option, though those seeking strong reading programs or guaranteed student retention may want to explore alternatives like the nearby Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy.

Open Quote Can't keep teachers. Make alot of promises but never fulfill them. The kids are not motivated nor challenged. These kids never go on college tours nor field trips since middle school. They promised us 6 years ago they were going to build a high school and our kids have two more years or school, and still no high school. No leadership at all. Close Quote
