Summary

Idea Rise College Preparatory in Fort Worth, TX, is a unique alternative school serving 598 students in grades 6 through 11, part of the Idea Public Schools district, and stands out because it is a large, mainstream college-prep program in a high-poverty area (86.79% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch), unlike the small, specialized facilities nearby.

What truly sets Idea Rise apart from its neighbors is its scale and academic focus. While nearby schools like the Assessment Center (9 students) and Tarrant Youth Recovery (42 students) serve specific populations, Idea Rise is a large, academically-driven school. It has achieved test scores that often exceed state averages, such as in Biology (75.19% vs. 70.51% state) and U.S. History (74.51% vs. 70.17% state) for the 2025-2026 school year. Its dropout rate of 2.0% is dramatically lower than the 60.9% rate at the Assessment Center, and it spends much less per student ($12,340) compared to other alternative schools, which spend up to $72,526. This efficiency shows the school is achieving strong results with a more traditional model.

However, there are important trends to note. The school has seen a significant decline in test scores since a peak in 2022-2023, especially in core subjects like 7th Grade Reading (dropping from 85% to 47.37%) and Algebra I (from 87% to 36.3%). Math remains a consistent weakness, with 6th Grade Math at 32.5% in 2025-2026, below the state average of 38.57%. On a positive note, the student-to-teacher ratio improved from 19.7:1 to 13.7:1, which could lead to more individualized attention and help reverse the downward trend. For parents, Idea Rise offers a college-prep environment with proven potential, but recent performance dips suggest the school is working to maintain its high standards.
