Summary

Premier H S Of Arlington is a small alternative high school in Arlington, TX, serving 176 students in grades 9-12, and is part of the Premier High Schools district, which ranks in the bottom 10% of Texas school districts.

This school serves a high-needs population, with nearly 79% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, but its academic outcomes are concerning. The graduation rate has been alarmingly low, reaching only 58.9% in 2023-2024, which is dramatically lower than nearby Arlington High School (85.3%) and Uplift Summit Prep High School (94.6%). However, the school reports a very low dropout rate of around 0.7%, suggesting that students are not leaving but are struggling to graduate within four years. Academic proficiency on STAAR EOC tests is consistently low—for example, only 11.11% of students were proficient in Algebra I and 15.79% in English I Reading in 2025-2026, compared to state averages of 54% and 55%, respectively. A relative bright spot is Biology, where 41.67% of students were proficient, closer to the district average.

Interestingly, the school’s performance was not always this low; it ranked in the 63rd percentile in 2015-2016 but has since declined to the bottom 10% of Texas high schools. The school also spends significantly less per student ($7,106) than nearby schools like Uplift Summit Prep High School ($10,589), which serves a similarly high-poverty population but achieves far better results. This contrast suggests that the challenges are not insurmountable, and the school’s past peak performance indicates potential for improvement.

Open Quote Yes it is true the school is not highly ranked by any means. That said, my son was an example of someone who is really able to take advantage of the self-taught nature of the program. There are teachers on hand to help the students but they have to "bring it" in terms of working through their "old-school" workbooks for each subject. They only get graded on tests rather than get points for homework - which is as it should be. They will be more "high tech" by next year, but in the meantime I am enjoying the fruits of my son's new environment.

My son was getting C's or worse in a traditional environment. Now he is getting straight A's - and it is not because the curriculum is any easier. I have seen the workbooks.

Premier is not for everyone - only for those who are willing to: 1) Work hard, 2) Wear nice clothes each day (polo shirt and slacks) 3) Graduate early (if they work hard enough) and 4) be OK with a VERY small class size with no sport opportunities, etc.

Bottom line - if you have a student who is struggling to the point of wanting to drop out altogther, how much better is this than a GED?? Where do GED's rank?? Close Quote
