Summary

Westchase Neighborhood School is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Houston, Texas, with 458 students. The school is part of the Texas College Preparatory Academies district, which is ranked 334 out of 961 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

Westchase Neighborhood School has shown mixed performance on STAAR assessments compared to the state and its district. While it has performed well in certain grade levels and subjects, such as 5th grade reading and 3rd/4th grade math, it has struggled in other areas like 6th-8th grade math and 5th grade science. This uneven performance is reflected in the school's overall ranking, which has ranged from 1 to 4 stars. The school has seen strong performance from its African American and low-socioeconomic status student subgroups, ranking in the top quartile of Texas elementary schools in these categories. However, its Hispanic, English Language Learner, and At-Risk student subgroups have struggled, with rankings in the bottom half of the state.

When compared to the nearby Alief Independent School District (Isd) and Houston Independent School District (Isd) schools, Westchase Neighborhood School generally outperforms them on STAAR assessments, particularly in reading. However, the nearby schools tend to have lower percentages of free/reduced lunch recipients and higher student-teacher ratios, which may contribute to their relatively lower performance. Additionally, the school has seen a concerning increase in its dropout rates, rising from 0% in 2021-2022 to 12% in 2022-2023, which is significantly higher than the state average.

Open Quote My son is in kindergarten and they have been amazing working with him. His teacher has worked extremely hard at getting him to stay focused and learn with his ADHD and behavior issues it isn’t a easy task but she comes up with creative ideas to make him interested in learning and he has come so far this past year. I’m extremely thankful that we found this school. Ms Sanchez and all the staff their really are teaching from the heart. Close Quote
