Summary

El Paso Classical Academy is a small, alternative public charter school in El Paso, TX, serving 271 students in grades PK through 12, and is part of the Texas College Preparatory Academies district.

This school presents a striking paradox: it is a top performer in advanced math but struggles significantly in reading and other core subjects. For example, in Algebra I, 73.9% of students are proficient, far outpacing the state average of 54% and nearby schools like Idea Mesa Hills College Preparatory (29.5%). However, in English I and II, only about 41% of students are proficient, which is dramatically lower than the state averages of 55-60% and well below peers like Harmony School Of Science - El Paso (66-74%). This "math vs. everything else" pattern is extreme, with the school even recording a 0% proficiency rate in 8th-grade Social Studies. Despite having a low student-to-teacher ratio of 13.6:1—smaller than nearby charters—the school is not translating this advantage into balanced academic success.

The school’s overall profile is unstable and high-risk. Its graduation rate is just 73.9%, far below the district’s 92.3%, and its dropout rate has swung wildly from 0% to 9.4% in recent years. While the school may accelerate math-proficient students, it appears to struggle with providing a well-rounded education, leading to disengagement in other subjects. For parents seeking a stable, balanced environment, this school’s extreme performance gaps and low graduation rate are significant concerns.
