Summary

Founders Classical Academy Of Schertz is a K-12 charter school in Schertz, TX, serving 774 students under the Texas College Preparatory Academies district. This mid-sized school stands out for its exceptional performance in Reading and English Language Arts (ELA), consistently outpacing state averages—for example, 8th-grade Reading proficiency reached 76.12% in 2024-2025 compared to the state's 56.39%. However, the school faces a significant challenge in Mathematics, where scores drop sharply in 4th grade, with only 20.51% of students proficient in 2025-2026 versus the state average of 49.28%. This "Math Gap" is a key differentiator, especially when compared to nearby Great Hearts Northern Oaks, a similar classical charter that excels in math (7th grade at 78.68% proficiency).

Despite its strong humanities focus, Founders Classical shows volatility in high school retention, with a dropout rate that spiked to 7.2% in 2021-2022 before dropping to 2.5%. The school's graduation rate of 88.9% is below the district average of 92.3%. On a positive note, U.S. History EOC scores soared to 96.15% proficiency in 2024-2025, far exceeding the state (67.94%) and district (80.82%), suggesting a highly effective teacher or curriculum change. Biology EOC scores are also consistently strong at 82.61% proficiency, though middle school science (5th grade at 25.97%) lags behind.

Compared to Great Hearts Live Oak, another classical charter just 7 miles away, Founders Classical is more of a "specialist" school—excelling in humanities but struggling with STEM. Great Hearts Live Oak offers a more balanced profile with strong math and reading scores and a lower dropout rate (1.9%). Founders Classical spends about $8,778 per student, which is low compared to alternatives like Southwest Preparatory Southeast Campus ($15,014) and George Gervin Academy ($13,903). This efficiency in ELA instruction contrasts with the apparent lack of resources to address the persistent math problem, making it a school where parents should carefully consider their child's math aptitude before enrolling.

Open Quote My daughter's experience at Founders Classical Academy School has been deeply distressing, marked by discrimination, neglect, and bullying. Despite her disability, the administration and teachers showed indifference to her struggles, leading to multiple panic attacks. The collaboration between teachers and administrators reached an alarming level as they misrepresented crucial aspects of my daughter's experiences. Not only did they violate her Individualized Education Program (IEP), but they also contributed to her current diagnosis of anxiety.

Despite repeated attempts to collaborate with the school, our concerns were met with indifference and dismissal. The school failed to support my daughter's unique needs, impacting both her mental health and education. Founders School does not prioritize providing a free and appropriate education (FAPE) to students with disabilities. Furthermore, the denial of parental rights to observe our children in the school environment hindered our active participation in their education.

In conclusion, Founders Classical Academy Schertz School has proven to be a disheartening and distressing environment for students with disabilities, with undeniable evidence of discrimination, neglect, and deceit. Parents considering this school should be aware of the potential harm to their children's well-being, as Founders School seems to operate in isolation, disregarding the rights and needs of both students and parents.
