Summary

Pegasus Charter High School is a small, alternative K-12 charter school in downtown Dallas, serving 348 students as a single-school district (Pegasus School Of Liberal Arts And Sciences).

The most remarkable thing about Pegasus is its perfect record of keeping students in school and on track to graduate. For five straight years, the school has maintained a 0.0% dropout rate and a 100% graduation rate (with a slight dip to 96.3% in the most recent two years, still exceptionally high). This is a standout achievement compared to nearby schools like Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy (95.0% graduation rate) and Legacy Prep Charter Academy Mesquite West Campus (96.1%). However, the school shows a dramatic split in academic performance. While elementary and middle school math scores are critically low (ranging from 0% to 16% proficiency in grades 3-8), high school End of Course exams tell a different story. In Biology (60% proficient) and English I (50% proficient), Pegasus students perform competitively with, and sometimes exceed, nearby schools like Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy (Biology: 43.56%, English I: 26.09%).

Perhaps the most hopeful sign is Pegasus's ability to turn around performance in specific subjects. U.S. History scores have skyrocketed from 0% proficiency in 2022-2023 to an impressive 73.68% in 2024-2025, significantly exceeding the state average of 67.94%. This dramatic improvement shows that the school's leadership and teachers can identify problems, implement solutions, and achieve outstanding results. The key question for parents is whether the school can replicate this success in mathematics and other core subjects. Pegasus clearly excels at providing a supportive environment that prevents dropouts, but the consistently low test scores in some subjects raise important questions about the academic quality of the diploma students receive.
