Summary

Texans Can Academy - Carrollton-Farmers Branch is a small alternative high school in Farmers Branch, TX, serving 214 students in grades 9-12, with a mission focused on re-engaging students who may be at risk of dropping out of traditional school settings.

This school faces significant academic challenges compared to nearby traditional high schools. On state STAAR exams, proficiency rates are critically low: only 7.1% of students passed Algebra I, compared to 20.9% at Turner High School and 54.0% statewide. Biology proficiency stands at 17.7%, while Ranchview High School achieves 60.7%. The school's graduation rate of 22.6% is dramatically lower than nearby schools like Creekview High School (97.8%), and its dropout rate of 30.6% far exceeds the 1.3% rate at Turner High School. However, U.S. History is a relative strength, with 48.6% proficiency—the school's best subject. The student-teacher ratio also spiked to 30.9:1 in 2024-2025, nearly double that of neighboring traditional schools, suggesting resource strain.

Despite these low metrics, the school appears to serve its intended purpose as a dropout recovery option. It outperforms its own district, Texans Can Academies, in English II (26.2% vs. 16.8%) and U.S. History (48.6% vs. 28.2%). Compared to Grimes Education Center, another alternative school just 1.55 miles away, Texans Can Academy performs better in nearly every academic metric, including U.S. History (48.6% vs. 35.7%) and English II (26.2% vs. 0%). For parents considering this school, the value lies not in traditional test scores but in its ability to provide a second chance for students who have struggled elsewhere, graduating some who might otherwise leave school entirely.

Open Quote WORST JOB EVER, TEACHERS AND THE PRINCIPAL HERE WILL BULLY YOU AND MICROMANAGE YOU TO DEATH. Also, if you are a teacher intern and are looking for a job DO NOT ACCEPT ANY JOB FROM HERE. The principal here is very proud of herself because (I quote): “I’ve had over 50 teacher interns working here in my school and I’ve just passed 4 of them.” Like, don’t risk your certification in a school where you’re going to be harassed and over worked and then they’ll not help you with your certification. Also, they will scream at you at treat you very badly. THIS SCHOOL IS A SCAM, for teachers and students RUN AWAY FROM HERE. Close Quote
