Summary:

ZIP code 37405 has 3 schools, all part of Hamilton County Schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee, serving grades PK-12 with 2,210 students. There is no standalone middle school, so middle-grade students attend either Normal Park Museum Magnet School (PK-8) or Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts (6-12). The three schools in this area vary dramatically in performance.

Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts is the standout, ranked 5th out of 400 Tennessee high schools with a 5-star rating and 99th percentile. It achieves 77.3% math proficiency, 75.5% ELA proficiency, and 88.2% science proficiency, far above state averages. Normal Park Museum Magnet School is a strong 4-star PK-8 magnet ranked in the 88th percentile, with proficiency rates running 12-22 points above state averages. Red Bank Elementary School, however, ranks in the 26th percentile with a 1-star rating and falls below state averages in every subject. The gap between the best and worst schools is enormous: CCA's math proficiency is 48 points higher than Red Bank's, and Normal Park beats Red Bank by roughly 26-29 points per subject.

Spending does not explain these results. Red Bank spends the most at $18,050 per student yet performs the lowest, while CCA spends the least at $15,767 and performs the highest. Chronic absenteeism tracks achievement too: Red Bank is at 16.3%, versus 5.2% at Normal Park and 8.3% at CCA. CCA has also improved dramatically, jumping from 21st to 5th in state rankings over three years, while Normal Park has stayed stable and Red Bank improved only slightly. For middle school, CCA appears to be the strongest option with 70-84% proficiency in math and 81.8% in 6th grade ELA, while Normal Park is strongest in elementary grades, though its middle school scores drop significantly from its 4th grade levels.
