Summary

Chapman's Retreat Elementary School is a PK–5 school in Spring Hill, Tennessee, serving 561 students as part of Williamson County Schools, one of the highest-ranked districts in the state (3rd out of 141 districts, 5 stars). The school itself is a solid, above-average performer — ranking in the 85th percentile statewide and beating Tennessee averages by wide margins in every subject — yet it sits at the lower end of its own district's performance spectrum.

In the most recent school year, Chapman's Retreat posted 66% proficiency in math, 56% in English language arts, and 61.4% in science, compared with state averages of 43%, 40.6%, and 46.9%. Those same numbers trail the district average by 9 to 16 points. Among its immediate Williamson County neighbors — Oak View, Bethesda, Amanda H. North, Thompson's Station, Heritage, Longview, and Allendale — Chapman's Retreat ranks lowest in all three subjects, trailing the peer average by 12–16 points. However, across the county line, it outperforms Maury County schools like Spring Hill, Battle Creek, and Marvin Wright, placing it in a "middle ground" between two very different districts.

One of the school's biggest strengths is math growth: proficiency climbs from 53.1% in 3rd grade to 74.3% by 5th grade, nearly closing the gap with the district. Reading is the weaker story — ELA proficiency stays flat at around 56% in every grade, leaving a persistent 16–20 point gap. The school also has exceptionally low chronic absenteeism (5.5% versus 18.9% statewide), and spending has risen 36% over three years with test scores improving alongside it. For parents, Chapman's Retreat is a reliable, above-average school with a strong math program and excellent attendance — but one where literacy growth deserves a close look.

Open Quote My son attends Kindergarten here. Learning is rigorous, challenging, and engaging. My son is very bright and I was so afraid that he'd be bored, but his teacher adapts to his needs and continues to keep him challenged. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the teachers and staff at this school. My husband and I are confident that our son is receiving the very best education available to him. Close Quote

Open Quote My son is enrolled in Kindergarten at Chapman's Retreat this year. He is thriving socially, reading on a 3rd grade level, and is excited everyday to come home and talk about what he learned. He LOVES his teacher and loves going to school. My anxiety of sending my little boy to school quickly disappeared as I fell in love with the school and the teachers. Close Quote
