Summary

Sycamore Elementary is a public elementary school in Cookeville, Tennessee, serving 310 students in grades PK-4 as part of the Putnam County School District. While the school has access to adequate resources, including higher per-student spending and a lower student-teacher ratio compared to state averages, its academic performance has consistently lagged behind both the district and state levels across all grades and subjects.

Sycamore Elementary's proficiency rates on TNReady assessments are notably lower than nearby higher-performing schools like Capshaw Elementary, Algood Elementary, and Prescott South Elementary. Additionally, the school has faced challenges with high rates of chronic absenteeism, which may be contributing to its overall academic struggles.

While Sycamore Elementary's performance is lower than the state and district averages, the school's available resources suggest that targeted interventions and strategies could potentially help improve academic outcomes for its students. Addressing the disparities in performance among different student subgroups, such as White students and English Language Learners, could be a key focus area for the school as it works to enhance the educational experience for all its learners.

Open Quote When I had went there as a child, I suffered from PTSD, then misdiagnosed as ADHD. The principle tried to force me into a spED class but I didn't meet the qualifications, but teachers still constantly harassed me if I was taking my medication- something which was not only invasive but troubling, as my mother made sure I always took my meds. Kids who were actually spED were constantly bullied and teachers made little effort to stop this.
In short, if your child displays symptoms of mental disorder, this school isn't going to handle your kid very well. Close Quote
