Summary

Lobelville Elementary School is a small rural PK-8 school in Lobelville, Tennessee, serving 237 students as part of Perry County Schools. The school has been steadily improving its statewide rank over the past few years, moving from the 10th percentile in 2023-24 to the 44th percentile in 2025-26, earning a 2-star rating. While this upward momentum is encouraging, overall proficiency remains below state averages in every subject — math at 33.1% vs. 43.0% statewide, ELA at 32.3% vs. 40.6%, science at 37.7% vs. 46.9%, and social studies at 31.0% vs. 51.4%.

The most defining characteristic of Lobelville is its dramatic split between early and later grades. The 3rd grade is a standout: 71.4% proficiency in ELA and 57.1% in math, well above both the district and state, and far ahead of nearby Linden Elementary School (40.5% ELA, 37.8% math) and Lakeview Elementary School (48.6% ELA, 37.8% math) in the same grade. However, those gains fade sharply by 8th grade, where proficiency falls to just 15.4% in ELA, science, and social studies, and 23.1% in math — dramatically below Lakeview Elementary School's 8th grade math result of 48.5%. This pattern suggests strong early instruction that isn't yet sustained through the middle grades.

On a positive note, chronic absenteeism has dropped from 34.9% in 2021-22 to just 8.8% in 2024-25 — far better than the district (15.4%), the state (18.3%), and every nearby comparison school. This improvement coincides with the school's rising rank. However, there are concerns: the school's effectiveness for low-income students has declined sharply from the 97th percentile in 2021-22 to the 23rd percentile in 2024-25, and female students' outcomes trail those of males. With per-pupil spending around $13,700, the school is adequately funded but has yet to translate those resources into upper-grade success. Parents should feel good about the early grades and attendance, but should watch how their child progresses through the middle years.
