Summary

Gower Elementary is a public elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 617 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Davidson County school district, which is ranked 122 out of 139 districts in the state.

Gower Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state averages in academic proficiency, particularly in 3rd grade. However, the school's performance varies across different student subgroups. While white and Hispanic students perform relatively well, the school struggles with the achievement of Asian, African American, and English Language Learner students, as well as students with disabilities and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Gower Elementary also experiences high rates of chronic absenteeism, which may be contributing to its lower performance compared to some of the top-performing nearby schools, such as Percy Priest Elementary, Sylvan Park Elementary, and Julia Green Elementary.

To address these challenges, Gower Elementary may need to focus on equity-focused initiatives, such as targeted interventions, professional development for teachers, and community engagement efforts, to ensure all students have the support they need to succeed. Addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism could also be an important step in improving overall student outcomes at the school.

Open Quote Thrilled with our experience! Our son is in kindergarten at Gower. Years ago we weren't sure about sending him, but as we got to know parents who actually have kids in the school and had a chance to meet some of the teachers and administrators, we realized our concerns were unfounded. The teachers are fantastic, my son has a learned a lot, and he's had a lot of fun. He's also had a great experience in the gifted program and after-school music classes. Couldn't be more pleased!
