Riceville Elementary consistently ranks in the top 25% of Tennessee elementary schools, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger in recent years. The school's proficiency rates in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies are significantly higher than the county and state averages across all grade levels. Particularly impressive are the performance of the school's 7th and 8th grade students, with over 60% proficiency in Mathematics and over 40% proficiency in English Language Arts. Riceville Elementary outperforms the nearby Niota Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, and Calhoun Elementary schools in academic proficiency.

However, the school has seen a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 13% in 2022-2023 to 18.9% in 2023-2024. Additionally, the school's special education students have struggled, ranking in the bottom 40% of Tennessee elementary schools in recent years. The school's per-student spending is higher than the nearby schools, ranging from $9,963 to $12,753 per student, and its student-teacher ratio of 15.7 to 15.9 is also lower than the nearby schools. Overall, Riceville Elementary is a high-performing school, but the rising chronic absenteeism and the relatively lower performance of its special education students are areas that warrant further attention and intervention.

Open Quote This is by one of the worst schools in Tennessee. The bathrooms are covered in urine, the buses are just as bad as the bathrooms, most of the staff are rude/incompetent, the teachers are catty, the food is disgusting, and most of all the kids are extremely mean. Please, don't send your kid here. They will hate it as did I. Close Quote
