Summary

Farragut Middle School, located in Knoxville, TN, serves 1,463 students in grades 6–8 and is part of Knox County Schools, but don't let the district's mid-pack reputation fool you—this school is a standout. In the 2025–2026 school year, Farragut ranked 11th out of 594 Tennessee middle schools, placing it in the 98th percentile with a 5-star rating. That's no fluke: the school has earned a 5-star rating every year since 2014–2015, with a #1 statewide rank in 2016–2017. Its academic proficiency rates are roughly 30 percentage points above state averages across math (72.5%), English language arts (70.5%), science (75.7%), and social studies (82.2%).

Farragut outpaces every nearby middle school, including its closest competitor West Valley Middle School, which ranks 18th statewide. The gap widens dramatically further down the list: Bearden Middle School ranks 169th, Karns Middle School 210th, and Cedar Bluff Middle School 221st. Farragut also shines for specific student groups—special education students rank 6th statewide, English learners 10th, and students from low-income backgrounds 42nd. Chronic absenteeism is remarkably low at 10.3%, less than half the district's 19.4%, which likely contributes to the school's consistent success.

What makes Farragut even more impressive is that it achieves elite results while spending less than almost every comparable school—just $10,698 per student. For context, Robertsville Middle School spends $15,236 per student and ranks far lower, while North Middle School spends similarly but trails in performance. Even in its "weakest" area, 8th-grade ELA, Farragut's 67.3% proficiency is 35 points above the state average. For parents looking for a middle school where strong academics, an engaged student body, and efficient spending come together, Farragut is the clear choice in the Knoxville area.

Open Quote We will see how the 7th grade goes. But we have been very pleased in the teachers, assignments and tests while she was in the sixth grade. She loved her Science teacher. Sherri Fischbach was an awesome Science teacher. My daughter had a sleep over with 5 other girls; they all loved Mrs. Fischbach, and loved Science. Homework was never what I felt like just something to keep them busy. Sometimes, I thought it was too much, but it really wasn't.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that seventh grade will go just as well.
I heard the Sherri Fischbach is leaving Farragut Middle School. I really hate to hear that, and I am sure it has to do with the new administration at the school. Farragut got a new principle this year, and I have heard several teachers left Farragut for over schools. Close Quote
