Summary

Altruria Elementary School serves 730 students in grades PK through 5 in Bartlett, TN, and is part of Bartlett City Schools, a district ranked 15th out of 141 in Tennessee with a 5-star rating. Altruria itself holds a 4-star rating and ranks 191st out of 1,019 Tennessee elementary schools, placing it in the 81st percentile statewide. On the most recent TNReady tests, the school posted proficiency rates of 61.6% in math, 53.7% in ELA, and 57.4% in science — all well above state averages and, in math and ELA, above district averages as well.

Math is Altruria's clearest strength, with proficiency climbing from 51.3% in 2022-23 to 61.6% today — the second-highest among its six nearest Bartlett City elementary peers, essentially tied with Bartlett Elementary School (61.0%) and just behind Bon Lin Elementary School (69.1%). Altruria also outpaces three of its closest district peers — Oak Elementary School, Ellendale Elementary School, and Rivercrest Elementary School — in every tested subject, and dramatically outperforms nearby Memphis-Shelby County Schools campuses such as Kate Bond Elementary School, where math proficiency is just 23.9%. The school is also notably effective with economically disadvantaged students, who ranked in the 84th–90th percentile statewide in recent years. Even so, ELA proficiency trails Bon Lin Elementary School by nearly 13 points, and a 4th-grade dip — 8.8 points below the district average in ELA — suggests a transitional area worth attention.

The biggest concern is attendance. Altruria's chronic absenteeism rate of 13.3% is the highest among its five closest Bartlett City peers and has more than doubled since 2021-22, when it was 6.0%. Special education is another opportunity gap: these students rank near the 52nd percentile statewide, well below the school's overall standing. On the positive side, Altruria spends about $13,779 per student — less than most surrounding schools — while delivering above-average results, making it a strong value for families. The school has not fully regained its pre-pandemic 5-star, 91st-percentile ranking, but with continued math momentum and targeted support in 4th-grade literacy, science, and attendance, it has a credible path back.

We have had Great Communication with our boy's teachers from day 1. I am shocked that no one has left a Review. Close Quote
