Summary

Collierville High School is a large public high school in Collierville, Tennessee, serving roughly 2,946 students in grades 9–12 as part of Collierville Schools, the #1-ranked district in the state. The school currently ranks #12 out of 400 Tennessee high schools, placing it in the 97th percentile statewide with a 5-star rating — a remarkable rise from #38 just a few years ago.

Academically, Collierville is an outlier in the Memphis suburban area. Proficiency rates on TNReady assessments are often double the state average — for example, 61.2% of students are proficient in Algebra I versus a 32.3% state average, and 77.7% are proficient in Biology I versus 49.8% statewide. Compared to nearby schools in Memphis-Shelby County Schools, a district ranked 137th of 141, the gap is enormous: Collierville's 72% English I proficiency rate is roughly four to nine times higher than schools like Wooddale High School (8.1%) and Cordova High School (18.5%). Even Houston High School, the other highly rated school in the area, trails Collierville on every core subject. The school also earns top-tier results for student subgroups, ranking #1 in Tennessee for English Language Learners and Asian students, and in the top 5 for special education.

Collierville's 94.4% graduation rate exceeds the state average of 90.5%, and its 2.9% dropout rate is less than half the state's 6.7%. Chronic absenteeism is 13.6%, well below the state average of 18.3% and dramatically better than nearby schools — several of which exceed 50%. The one soft spot: Collierville's absenteeism is higher than its own district average (9.8%) and Houston High School (8.7%). Notably, the school achieves all of this while spending just $11,450 per student — less than every nearby school — making it one of the most efficient high-performing schools in Tennessee.

Open Quote Collierville High School is not a good school. It is only a good school because of how bad other schools in the state of Tennessee are and how bad other schools in the United States are. The school also has a serious drug problem which no one seems to care or even want to discuss. I feel like everyone around me smokes weed and does drugs and acts like there is nothing wrong with it. Parents have no idea and are unaware. The administration focuses on the wrong issues at the school. If anything they should be focusing on the drug problem but they could care less. The teachers at this school are also horrible. I only had two teachers in my entire four years who really made a difference in my education. Main point is it is not a great school. I am very disappointed with everything about the school and have nothing good to say. Close Quote

Open Quote I will admit, the new campus is BEAUTIFUL!! However, this year feels more strict than before with the way administration is acting. They have been treating us like we’re in elementary school. The new school has all these beautiful chairs and what not, and we don’t even have time to sit down in them. They told us last year that they’d be more freedom in the new school, but the opposite has occurred. With the teachers, half of them are helpful with me learning in their class and half of them are not. Also, we have only FIVE minutes to get to class in that big building. It’s absolutely ridiculous because the campus is huge and getting from one side to the other is nearly impossible. Close Quote
