Summary:

Dyersburg City Schools includes just one middle school, Dyersburg Middle School, serving grades 6 through 8 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, and the district itself ranks 59th out of 141 districts in the state. The school currently holds a 3-star rating, ranking 219 out of 594 Tennessee middle schools, which places it in the 63rd percentile. While this is a step up from the previous year, the school has not yet returned to its 4-star status from 2023–2024. On a positive note, chronic absenteeism is much lower than the state average (12.8% vs. 18.3%), and the school spends about $13,452 per student, a meaningful investment in resources and support.

Academically, Dyersburg Middle School shows a clear strength in mathematics, with 47.8% of students proficient compared to the state’s 43.0%. This advantage holds across all grade levels, especially in 7th grade, where the school outperforms the state by more than 10 points. Social studies is also slightly above average, matching the district at 52.3%. However, English language arts is the main area of concern: only 35.9% of students are proficient, below both the district (38.7%) and the state (40.6%). Science is inconsistent—6th graders trail the state by 11.3 points, but 8th graders actually beat the state by 3.5 points. At the grade level, 8th grade ELA is especially low at 31.8%, while 8th grade social studies is a bright spot at 52.9%.

Encouragingly, the school improved in every subject from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, with the largest gain in social studies (+3.4 points) and steady gains in math, ELA, and science. Because Dyersburg Middle is the only middle school in the district, its scores are effectively the district’s middle school results. For parents, this means a school that is moving in the right direction, with strong math instruction and solid attendance, but with room to grow in literacy and early-middle-school science. Overall, Dyersburg Middle School offers a stable, improving environment where students are generally outperforming the state in math and social studies while still needing extra support in English and science.
