Summary:

Fall Branch, Tennessee is served by a single K-8 school, Fall Branch Elementary School, which enrolls 256 students across kindergarten through eighth grade and operates under Washington County Schools, a district ranked in the top 30% of Tennessee districts. For parents, this means their child will attend one school from kindergarten through 8th grade, and that school is currently on a strong upward trajectory.

Fall Branch Elementary has made a remarkable turnaround. After ranking in the 34th percentile statewide in 2024–2025, it jumped to the 65th percentile in 2025–2026, earning a 3-star rating. Every core subject improved dramatically: math rose from 35.8% to 45.9% proficiency, ELA from 30.7% to 37.4%, science from 39.2% to 52.1%, and social studies from 15.7% to 36.6%. The school now outperforms the state average in both math and science, and its third-grade classes are a bright spot—beating the district and state in ELA, math, and science. Chronic absenteeism is also low at 11.2%, far better than the district (17.3%) and state (18.3%), which supports consistent learning.

However, challenges remain. The biggest concern is upper-grade ELA: only 12.5% of 7th graders and 19.0% of 8th graders are proficient in reading, a steep drop from the strong 63.2% proficiency in 3rd grade. Social studies is the weakest subject overall, with all tested grades (6th–8th) scoring below 40% proficiency and well behind district and state averages. Science is a hidden strength, outperforming the state in most grades. Given the small student body, year-to-year swings can be large, but the overall direction is clearly positive. Parents should feel encouraged by the school’s recent gains while keeping an eye on middle-school literacy and social studies support.
