Summary:
Madison Central School District 39-2 has three schools serving kindergarten through grade 12: Madison Elementary (515 students), Madison Middle (270), and Madison High (384). The clearest overall finding is that Elementary and Middle are above state proficiency in both current SBA subjects, but math is less consistently strong: Elementary is 7 points above the state in math, while Middle is just 1 point above.
Madison Middle stands out in ELA, with 57% proficient compared with 54% at Madison Elementary, a 3-point lead; both exceed the 49% state result. Elementary leads in math, 51% to Middle’s 44%, a 7-point gap. Grade results show why all-grades averages do not tell the whole story: Elementary fifth grade is 13 points above the state in both ELA and math, while third grade is 1 point below in ELA and 3 points below in math. Middle’s ELA is above state in each grade, but its seventh-grade math is 4 points below. Madison High has a strong completion rate—95%, 7 points above the state—and its grade 11 ACT science and math are 5 and 4 points above state, while ELA is 1 point below. High’s current ACT results are a separate point of reference, not a direct comparison with the other schools’ SBA results.
Recent results show both improvement and setbacks: ELA fell by about 2 points at Elementary and Middle from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while math was nearly steady overall. Science moved in opposite directions: Elementary fifth-grade results dropped 14 points, while Middle eighth-grade results rose 3 points. SchoolDigger ranks the district 49th of 126 and gives it 3 stars; school ranking percentiles changed from 2023–24 to 2025–26 by +2 for Elementary, +13 for High (after reaching 70), and −4 for Middle. In 2024–25, student-teacher ratios were 15.6 at Elementary, 12.2 at Middle, and 14.8 at High; free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 29%, 23%, and 20%, respectively.
