Summary

Old Pointe Elementary is a K-5 public school in Rock Hill, SC, serving 565 students within the York 03 school district. The school has consistently ranked in the middle tier of South Carolina elementary schools, currently placing at the 48th percentile statewide, with a student-teacher ratio of 15:1 and per-student spending of $14,474.

One of the most encouraging stories at Old Pointe is its dramatic improvement in chronic absenteeism. The rate has dropped from 25.7% in 2022-2023 to 18.1% in 2024-2025, now matching the district average and beating the state average of 22.3%. This is especially impressive when compared to nearby schools like Richmond Drive Elementary (29.4%) and The Palmetto School (29.8%), which continue to struggle with attendance. The school has also made remarkable strides in serving students with disabilities, jumping from near the bottom of the state rankings (4th percentile) in 2021-2022 to the middle of the pack (47th percentile) by 2024-2025. In English Language Arts, Old Pointe holds its own, with 3rd-grade proficiency at 65.7%—slightly above the state average—and outperforming several nearby schools including Northside Elementary and York Road Elementary.

However, mathematics remains a clear area of concern. All grade levels scored below state averages in 2025-2026, with 5th-grade math showing particular volatility—plummeting to just 20.2% proficiency in 2023-2024 before recovering to 46% this year. The school also shows a persistent gender gap, with female students ranking at the 51st percentile compared to males at the 40th percentile. Despite these challenges, Old Pointe spends less per student than several peers like Ebinport Elementary ($17,268) and Northside Elementary ($16,079) while achieving better outcomes, suggesting efficient resource use. The school sits in a "middle child" position—outperforming struggling neighbors like Richmond Drive and York Road, but trailing top performers like Mount Gallant Elementary and Cherry Park Elementary. The school's proven ability to improve in targeted areas suggests that focused attention on math instruction could yield similar positive results.

Open Quote My daughter attends here and is in the first grade. She started in kindergarten. We couldn't be happier with Old Pointe. Excellent, caring teachers who really take time with each student individually. I volunteer often and it's a very well run environment. My daughter loves going to school and always looks forward to what she will learn next! Close Quote

Open Quote Our girls went in 2012 and we simply were amazed! Awesome in every way! We moved for a year then made the effort to come back after one year at a school that just didn't compare.
WOW....sad how bad it is after just one year! The culture is different...not good. There is a new principal, not sure if thats it, but something put a skunk in the perfume!
My first grader must have an imaginary teacher....like, if you don't imagine something on the daily communications sheet....there won't be any! Our last child hates the 4k program now....after the first one absolutely loved it in 2012/13 {not b/c of the teacher its the school} She is petrified of being outside of the classroom and one new change is that the older sister can't walk the 4k down to her class....I understand the reasoning but just like medicine....at this young age....each case must be unique....this is just oversight or incompetence.
The teachers that were there in 2012 seem to be doing there best to maintain the environments in their classes, but the overall culture seems to have morphed into the "pest control guy that stops by to spray during the day while you are working hoping he doesn't have to talk to anyone or actually do a good job"
Somewhat indescribable how its changed,,,,but its definitely different....and NOT in good WAY! Equally SAD & PATHETIC! What a magnificent resource this jewel was for the Rock Hill Community.....and now after just one short year of decline! Close Quote
