Open Quote Very very cold people, my child was bullied and overly punished for having a cell phone one through out the entire year. Children or one child in particular has disruptive behaviors everyday (literally) but my child who has never been in trouble and is an all A student is seen with her cell phone once and was jumped by 3 teachers and then given in school suspension. Not a warning. My child cried and cried so much. Then one time I receive an email because she was sucking her thumb in class, it's like the simplicity weights so heavy but the children bringing knife and guns to school are overlooked Close Quote

Open Quote Berry Shoals is head and shoulders above other area schools. The administration is firm, yet kind and understanding with their students, and their leadership skills are amazing. Mr. Mike Powell, principal, and Ms. Lisa Wallis, assistant principal, are supportive of their staff and students, and go out of their way to involve parents and teachers on finding up-to-date and effective ways to inspire and educate the students. Berry Shoals teachers are professional, yet caring towards their students. Not only have I had the honor of my oldest child attending that school, I have two more that are headed there in the next couple of years. I am not only a former/future parent there, I am a substitute teacher within Dist. 5. I have seen first hand the exemplary dedication that every staff member has to their students and their educational well being. I highly recommend seeking housing within their attendance zone. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
