Summary

Oak Pointe Elementary is a public school in Irmo, SC, serving 484 students in grades PK–5 as part of the highly regarded Lexington 05 school district, which ranks in the top 20% of districts statewide.

Oak Pointe is a consistently strong performer, ranking in the top quarter of South Carolina elementary schools with a 4-star rating. Its students outperform district and state averages across most subjects and grade levels. For example, 4th-grade math proficiency (70.5%) exceeds the district by 9 points and the state by 18 points, and 4th-grade science proficiency (66.6%) is 15 points above the state average. The school also stands out for its exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 10.1%, compared to 15% for the district and 22.3% statewide—a factor that likely contributes to academic success. Oak Pointe is part of a cluster of high-achieving schools in the Irmo area, alongside River Springs Elementary and Ballentine Elementary, all of which significantly outperform nearby schools like Leaphart Elementary and Dutch Fork Elementary.

One of Oak Pointe's most notable strengths is its exceptional outcomes for students with disabilities, ranking in the 81st percentile statewide—a metric where many schools struggle. The school also demonstrates strong results for its African American students, ranking in the 90th percentile statewide. However, there are areas for improvement. A persistent gender gap exists, with female students ranking significantly higher than male students. Additionally, 5th-grade math proficiency (53.9%) is a relative weak point, barely above the state average and a stark contrast to the school's strong 5th-grade ELA performance (69.9%). While Oak Pointe spends a substantial $17,966 per student—more than some peers—it uses those resources effectively, delivering better results than schools with even higher spending. Overall, Oak Pointe is a reliable, high-quality option that excels in serving a diverse student body, though it has not yet fully regained its pre-pandemic top-100 ranking.

Open Quote In my opinion, Oak Point Elementary is one of the Greatest schools in South Carolina.
I have seen how the teachers interact with the students, especially the special area classes. Mrs. Corley, (and her A Team) being a first year teacher goes above and beyond their call of duty to make sure that the children are involved in academics and other activities. Mrs.Corley and the A-Team...Jordan loves you and so do I.
