Summary:

Burrillville has three elementary schools serving kindergarten through grade 5, with 832 students combined; two schools serve grades 2–5 and one serves kindergarten–grade 1. Austin T. Levy School has no test scores listed, so achievement comparisons cover the other two schools. The most important finding is that Steere Farm Elementary School leads William Callahan School in all three reported all-grades subjects and scores above the state in each.

Steere Farm is the stronger overall performer: its 2025–26 proficiency rates were 39.3% in English language arts (ELA), 37.9% in math and 38.1% in science—12.1, 6.5 and 10.3 percentage points above Callahan, respectively. Callahan scored below the state in all three subjects, while Steere Farm exceeded it by 6.2 points in ELA, 6.0 in math and 7.0 in science. The largest concern at Callahan is grade 5: ELA proficiency was 17.7% and math was 22.8%, respectively 13.4 and 9.0 points below state results. A notable exception is grade 3 math, where Callahan led Steere Farm by 1.2 points. SchoolDigger ranked Steere Farm 62nd of 163 schools (62nd percentile), compared with Callahan at 101st (38th percentile).

Recent results show improvement in some areas but not a uniform upward trend: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, the schools’ unweighted average rose 1.95 percentage points in ELA and 4.45 in science, but fell 3.8 in math. Callahan’s science score rose 8.8 points while its math score fell 4.8; Steere Farm’s ELA rose 3.7 points and math fell 2.8. SchoolDigger’s three-year rankings also moved in opposite directions: Steere Farm improved from 70th to 62nd, while Callahan moved from 94th to 101st. As context, Steere Farm has a 13.4:1 student–teacher ratio and a 35.45% free/reduced-lunch rate; Callahan has a 14:1 ratio and a 49.68% rate.
