Summary:

Urban Collaborative has one school, Urban Collaborative Program, a middle school serving grades 7–8 with 145 students. Its latest proficiency results show that students are far below Rhode Island rates in every reported subject: under 5% in English Language Arts (ELA), 7.6% in mathematics, and 5.5% in science, compared with state rates of 33.1%, 31.9%, and 31.1%. The most important finding for families is that the school has substantial achievement gaps in all three subjects.

There are no other schools in the area to compare, so Urban Collaborative Program is both the area’s only school and its highest and lowest by default. Compared with the state, its largest shortfall is in ELA: under 5% proficient versus 33.1%, a gap of more than 28.1 percentage points. The science gap is 25.6 points, and the mathematics gap is 24.3 points, making mathematics the school’s relative high point—but still well below the state result. The pattern is similar across grades: grade 7 ELA is under 5% versus 32% statewide, and grade 8 is 5.5% versus 33.1%; mathematics gaps are 21.4 points in grade 7 and 22 points in grade 8.

The two subjects with earlier results both declined: ELA went from 6.5% in 2024–2025 to under 5% in 2025–2026, while science fell from 8.3% to 5.5%. No earlier mathematics result is supplied. SchoolDigger ranked the school 62nd of 66 schools, in the 6th percentile, in 2024–2025; in 2025–2026 it ranked 67th of 68, in the 1st percentile, with zero stars. These rankings reflect a different measure from proficiency scores. The school’s 2024–2025 student–teacher ratio was 10.3, and its reported free/reduced-lunch rate was 100%; these figures describe the school’s context, not the cause of its results. Because the area has only one school, there is no meaningful school-to-school comparison.
