Summary:
Capt. Isaac Paine Elementary School is the only school listed in Foster, Rhode Island, and serves students in prekindergarten through grade 5. Its 2025–26 results show a mixed picture: all-grades science proficiency is above the state rate, while all-grades English language arts and math are slightly below. The most important finding is the sharp difference in math by grade: fifth graders are well above the state, but third graders are far below it.
Fifth-grade math is the school’s standout result, while third-grade math is its clearest low point. At Capt. Isaac Paine, 41.2% of fifth graders were proficient in math, 9.4 percentage points above the state’s 31.8%; in third grade, 16.7% were proficient, 20.4 points below the state’s 37.1%. Fourth-grade math was 29.0%, also below the state’s 35.1%. Science is the strongest subject overall: 35.3% proficiency, compared with 31.1% statewide. All-grades ELA was 29.5% versus 33.1%, and math was 29.5% versus 31.9%. ELA results were more consistent across grades, ranging from 26.5% to 31.3%, while math ranged from 16.7% to 41.2%. Because only one school is listed, there is no school-to-school leader or comparison within Foster.
Results changed in different directions from 2024–25 to 2025–26: ELA rose from 26.4% to 29.5%, science from 34.1% to 35.3%, and math fell from 32.7% to 29.5%. The school’s math result remained above the Foster district result, with the gap widening from 0.6 to 0.9 points, even as both declined. SchoolDigger rates the school at 2 stars and the 44th percentile, up slightly from the 43rd percentile in each of the two prior years; its rank is 92 of 163, compared with 95 of 166 previously. The school has 241 students, a student–teacher ratio of 11.4, and a 2024–25 free/reduced-lunch rate of 25.31%; these are useful context, not explanations of its scores.
