Summary

Sixteenth & Haak Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-4 in the Reading School District in Pennsylvania, with an enrollment of 520 students.

The school has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Pennsylvania elementary schools over the past decade, with significantly below-average performance on PSSA tests across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 20.8% of students were proficient or better in PSSA Math, compared to 41.7% statewide and 9.8% in the Reading School District. The school's English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates are also low, ranging from 15-32.5%, compared to the state average of around 48-54%. While the school's performance on PSSA Science tests is slightly better, it still falls below the state average.

The school faces significant challenges, including a high percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in recent years. The school's diverse student population, with a significant percentage of Hispanic students and English Language Learners, also presents both challenges and opportunities. While these subgroups perform better than the overall school, they still lag behind state averages, indicating a need for targeted interventions and support. The school's relatively high student-teacher ratio and lower per-student spending compared to some nearby schools, such as Mt Penn Elementary School, may suggest that the district is not allocating resources effectively to support the needs of Sixteenth & Haak Elementary School and its students.

Open Quote Terrible!! The teachers stay on their phones all day when they are supposed to be teaching. My son was called “dumb” by his special education teacher. The principal (Mrs. Webb) says it is “unheard of for that particular teacher to do such a thing” when it is presented to her. Close Quote
