Despite its relatively small size, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom 20% of Overbrook Elementary School's academic performance has been a concern, with proficiency rates in both math and English language arts significantly lower than the district and state averages.

In the 2024-2025 school year, only 7.6% of Overbrook students were proficient or better in math, compared to 25% for the district and 41.7% for the state. Interestingly, Overbrook's performance is generally lower than the nearby Overbrook Edu Center and Guidon S Bluford Elementary School, but it outperforms some other nearby schools, such as Heston Edward School and Lamberton Robert E School. Additionally, the nearby Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School and Mastery Charter School - Mann Campus significantly outperform Overbrook Elementary in both math and English language arts proficiency.
