Summary

Montessori Regional Charter School is an elementary school serving 632 students in grades K-8 in Erie, Pennsylvania, which is part of the Montessori Regional Charter School District. While the school aims to provide a Montessori-based education, it has consistently struggled to meet academic standards, with students performing well below state averages on standardized tests in both math and English language arts across all grade levels.

Montessori Regional Charter School faces significant challenges in serving its student population effectively. The school's academic performance is consistently below the state average, with only 23.5% of students proficient or better in math and 35% proficient or better in English language arts in the 2024-2025 school year, compared to state averages of 41.7% and 48.5%, respectively. The school also struggles to support certain student subgroups, such as students with disabilities and those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, who perform poorly compared to state averages. Additionally, the school has had higher dropout rates than the state's typical elementary school.

Interestingly, nearby schools in the Millcreek Township School District, such as Chestnut Hill Elementary and Grandview Elementary, significantly outperform Montessori Regional Charter School on standardized tests, with proficiency rates often 30-40 percentage points higher. This suggests that the challenges faced by Montessori Regional Charter School may be unique and require a comprehensive review and improvement plan to better serve the community.

Open Quote My child loves going to school each day! The teachers, principal, and staff are wonderful. They are very dedicated, professional, and kind. The school has made AYP every year, helps the community, and offers breakfast for free to every student. Close Quote

Open Quote This is a great public school...my children are excited about learning and I know that they are safe and happy every day. The building is older and they are still growing, which can be a problem, but everyone makes a big effort to get things done right. I am so satisfied and I know that this foundation will make them great students in middle and high school. So glad I found it and got in through the lottery. Close Quote
