Summary

Community Academy of Philadelphia Charter School is an alternative public charter school serving 1,242 students in grades K-12 in Philadelphia, PA. While the school maintains high graduation rates and low dropout rates, it struggles significantly in terms of academic achievement compared to state and local standards.

Despite the school's consistently high 4-year graduation rates, ranging from 87.5% to 88.5%, and relatively low dropout rates of 0.6% to 1.6%, its proficiency rates on standardized tests are far below the Pennsylvania state averages. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 10.5% of students were proficient or better in PSSA Math, compared to the state average of 41.7%. This stark academic underperformance suggests the school may be facing unique challenges in effectively educating its students.

The school serves a predominantly low-income population, with an extremely high percentage of students, ranging from 99.35% to 100.08%, qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. This high poverty concentration likely contributes to the academic challenges the school faces. When compared to other nearby Community Academy of Philadelphia Charter School and Math Civics and Sciences Charter School, Community Academy of Philadelphia Charter School generally underperforms academically, despite having similar demographic and resource profiles.

Open Quote This school is the worst. The teachers dont teach us they hand out packets expecting us to do this when we dont know wat its about because they dont teach us anything. They baby us like we dont know what were doing and treat us as if we were little children this school has no respect for our thoughts and feelings. When the teachers ask us to write a letter to whoever about there school they tell us to only write good things about the school and they say that if we write anything bad about the school they will send us to disapline i might as well get an F on it because theres nothing good about the school that should be shared , and i just took midterms and failed because i didnt know anythin because theteachers dont teach us anything usefull they teach us things we either learned already in elementary school or things we would be tought in college. the teachers say they expect us to go to college when not all of us wanna do that some of us want to become acters , singers , or explore the world. This school is the worst Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers in the upper grades do not teach us they just hand out packets, they expect so much from students when they dont even teach us nothing. All they say to us is that they expect us to go to collage, they say that all those public schools are nothing but a waste of time when this school is a waste, we cant even express our selves during school hours we want to be able to work in groups and have a good learning environment interacting with other students the teachers get mad over any little conversation that is going on this is suppose to be a school not a jail, we want to be able to be our selves. i feel as if when students are sent down to discipline its for nothing because the teachers get mad for every little thing, we get a late slip just because we are one minute late to class its not our faults were late because were getting checked by airport security!!! we have clear bookbags what more do they want. if this school wasn't so bad i wouldn't waste my time talking about it this school should be changed and made better or shut down , because soon there is going to be alot of drop outs! parents just enroll there kids to this school because it has security but what they dont know is what happens inside the school grounds, whatever people see so good about this school well they aint got no clue how it really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
