As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote An incredibly supportive part of our community, Melrose Elementary has outstanding caring teachers, support staff, and amazing and dedicated base of parent involvement, low to no peer physical/emotional conflict and a small classroom, country feel with country values in an amazing and beautiful setting.
The class sizes are smaller but the test scores, leadership opportunities and efforts to provide an environment that builds a well rounded student are high.
The Parent Teacher group has provided free classroom supplies for EVERY STUDENT at the school from 2009 to the present as well as a spirit gear t-shirt for EVERY STUDENT so that they know they are part of one big family.

Extracurricular activities include, but are not limited to, being a charter organization for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, home of multiple Eagle Scout projects done by former Melrose alumni, Science Fair, Family Movie Nights, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son activity day, school Carnival, Serpentine and Harvest parade, Extra Math, CrossFit PE supplement activities, Healthy Hearts, Battle of the Books, A/R Reading, Holiday Family Dinner, Marble Season (Melrose currently holds the WORLD RECORD for the World's Largest Marble Tournament), Melrose Mile, Farm Day, Field Day and much, much more.
Melrose may be small but it is mighty!

The Parent Teacher Action Network (PTAN), their version of a PTA group, raises almost $20k per year, pays for an extra Teachers aid to cover what a lack of Title 1 funding does not give their school.

They have received over $30000 in grants over the past 6 years and made many capital improvement that will last for years to come.
Even though this site ranks this school as one star, that rating does not come close to measuring the heart, soul and beauty of this community, it's participants, teachers, staff and students. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
