About the Smarter Balanced Assessments: In 2010, the State Board of Education adopted more rigorous instructional standards in English and Math. Over the past five years, educators across the state have worked together to implement these standards in every K-12 classroom in Oregon. The standards are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need at every step along their educational journey so they can graduate high school fully prepared for success in college and the workplace. In order to assess how well students are mastering these higher standards, the state is using new statewide tests known as Smarter Balanced.

Open Quote Its a shame the previous poster had a bad experience...I'm a parent and all the other parents I know at Emerson are thrilled with their experience there. The school is small in size and has a real community feel. I am so happy my daughter got in there, she has made such good friends and is excited to learn. Close Quote

Open Quote We used to love Emerson, thought the world of it's project approach method and it's teachers, until we had a bully problem that wasn't getting taken care of. Not only did we get 'lip service' from the staff and administration, but I think they truly believe there is no problem. They are in complete denial and since we didn't see things changing any time soon, we pulled our child last year and are now much happier at our local school. It's really too bad as they have tons of potential. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
