Sherwood Heights Elementary School is a K–5 school in Pendleton, Oregon (Umatilla County) serving 439 students, making it the largest elementary school in its local comparison group within Pendleton School District 16. Statewide, it ranks in the bottom quartile — 23rd percentile with 1 star in 2025-2026 — and it trails both its district and the state in English language arts (31.4%), math (23.6%), and science (24.7%). This is not a one-year dip: the school sat around the 60th percentile with 2–3 stars from 2016-17 through 2018-19, and has spent the last four years rated 1 star.

The most striking comparison is with McKay Creek Elementary School, a same-district school less than a mile away. McKay Creek ranks at the 62nd percentile, with ELA proficiency of 50.8% and math of 38.3%, and chronic absenteeism of 14.1% versus Sherwood Heights' 30.3%. The clearest concerns are 4th- and 5th-grade reading, where the school falls roughly 9–10 points behind its district, and persistently lower results for female students. Per-student spending rose 23% over three years to $17,618 without a matching rise in achievement.
