Falcon Heights

Falcon Heights is a K–12 alternative public school in the Klamath County School District, located at 8205 Hwy 39 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, serving 279 students across all grade levels in a single building — a configuration that is unusual outside the alternative-school sector. It is the only school within 20 miles, so there are no neighboring schools to compare it with; the useful reference points for parents here are the district and the state.

The school's clearest success is graduation: the rate has risen every year, from 32.4% in 2020–21 to 58.2% in 2024–25, a gain of about 26 points, though it still trails the district (86.7%) and the state (83.0%) by roughly 25 to 29 points. Eleventh-grade science is a genuine bright spot at 33.3% — essentially level with the state's 33.8%. The urgent problem is attendance: 70.8% of students were chronically absent in 2024–25, more than double both the district and the state. Five years earlier, the school's rate was better than both. Over the same period, the student–teacher ratio climbed from 21.5 to 31.0.

On state tests, Falcon Heights scores below the district and state in English language arts (21%), math (16.1%) and science (23.7%). At 11th grade, math proficiency is under 5% — the weakest figure in the file — and ELA is 18.5% against 46% statewide, the widest gap anywhere. Per-student spending has stayed flat at roughly $5,300 to $5,900, so staffing thinned without added investment. Two caveats: every grade-level result except 11th grade is suppressed because of small cohorts, so the "all grades" figures mostly reflect high schoolers; and the reported 102.87% free/reduced-lunch rate is a reporting artifact, not a real rate, though it does reflect a near-universally low-income student body. In short, this school is moving graduation in the right direction but losing ground on attendance and literacy.
