Lighthouse Charter School is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Coos Bay, Oregon, with an enrollment of 205 students. The school is part of the Coos Bay School District 9, which is ranked 84 out of 140 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lighthouse Charter School generally outperforms the Coos Bay School District 9 and the state of Oregon in standardized test scores, particularly in English Language Arts and Science. For example, in 2024-2025, Lighthouse Charter School had 63.2% of 7th graders and 69.2% of 8th graders proficient or better in ELA, compared to 48.3% and 37.7% for the district, respectively. In Science, Lighthouse Charter School had 56% of 5th graders and 61.5% of 8th graders proficient or better, compared to 18.4% and 23.9% for the district. However, the school has had higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state average, ranging from 18.2% to 45.8% over the past few years, which is an area of concern.

While Lighthouse Charter School outperforms the Coos Bay School District 9, there are some nearby districts, such as Bandon School District 54 and North Bend School District 13, that have higher-performing elementary schools, such as Hillcrest Elementary School in the North Bend district. Additionally, Lighthouse Charter School has a relatively low per-student spending compared to some of the nearby traditional public schools, which may contribute to the school's performance challenges.

Open Quote Right down in the middle of the pack. A small school should be able to bring student achievements up, but the numbers don't reflect this advantage. This is a charter school for parents wishing to shield their children from a world no one can hide from. It makes for a weaker education. Close Quote
