Summary

Mari-Linn School is a small K–8 school in rural Lyons, Oregon (Linn County), serving 158 students across ten grade levels — about 16 per grade — as part of North Santiam School District 29J. Its long-term story matters most: the school fell from the 64th percentile in 2014–15 to the 17th percentile in 2023–24, then improved two years in a row to reach the 33rd percentile and 2 stars in 2025–26. That 16-point recovery is real, but it leaves the school below where it sat before the decline.

On 2025–26 state tests, proficiency is below both the district and the state in every subject: 34.5% in English language arts (district 41.6%, state 43.8%), 21.2% in math (district 28.9%, state 32.9%), and 22.2% in science (district 27.7%, state 30.6%). Results also swing widely from grade to grade, which is expected with only about 16 students per grade.
