The 73078 zip code area is home to two elementary schools - Northwood Elementary School and Piedmont Elementary School, both serving grades K-5. Based on the available data, Northwood Elementary stands out as a high-performing school, consistently ranking among the top elementary schools in the state of Oklahoma.
Northwood Elementary School outperforms the Piedmont district and the state of Oklahoma in proficiency rates for both English Language Arts and Mathematics across all grades. In the 2024-2025 school year, Northwood ranked 25th out of 614 Oklahoma elementary schools, with 49% of students proficient or better in ELA and 59% proficient or better in Mathematics. In contrast, the Piedmont district and the state of Oklahoma had lower proficiency rates in both subjects.
While Northwood Elementary's academic performance is impressive, both schools in the 73078 zip code area face a challenge with higher-than-average chronic absenteeism rates of 19.0% in the 2024-2025 school year, compared to the state average. Additionally, Northwood Elementary serves a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 36.7% of its students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, compared to 31.84% at Piedmont Elementary. These factors may contribute to the differences in academic performance between the two schools, though further investigation would be needed to fully understand the underlying causes.
