Carl Albert Middle School

Summary:

Carl Albert Middle School is a public middle school located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 834 students. The school is part of the Midwest City-Del City school district, which is ranked 244 out of 295 districts in Oklahoma and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

One of the key strengths of Carl Albert Middle School is its consistent academic performance, outperforming both the Midwest City-Del City district and the state of Oklahoma in proficiency across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2022-2023 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics were significantly higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, the school has a relatively diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 46.76% White, 16.79% African American, 13.79% Hispanic, and a mix of other races, which is higher compared to some nearby schools like Del City Middle School and Midwest City Middle School. The school also maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 14.5 to 18.2 students per teacher over the past three years, which is lower than the nearby schools.

However, the school is facing some challenges, as its statewide ranking has declined over the years, from a high of 30th out of 332 Oklahoma middle schools in 2015-2016 to 103rd out of 149 in 2022-2023. Additionally, the school's performance for specific student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status students, is generally lower than the overall school performance and lags behind the state averages. When compared to schools outside the Midwest City-Del City district, such as Choctaw Middle School and Nicoma Park Middle School, Carl Albert's performance is less impressive. The school's spending per student ($9,002 in 2018-2019) is also lower than some of the nearby schools, which may suggest a need for additional funding and resources to support its academic programs and student needs.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school wonderful opportunities for kids that are not often found everywhere. Especially trying to find those that do not just include sports. My daughter started sixth grade this year and has now taken intro industrial shop (woodshop)and vocal music choir, next semester she'll be taking communications! When I was in sixth grade we still just were allowed the basics, none of these extra cool classes here at Carl Albert. She also had the opportunity to join the swim team as well. The teachers are great they have up to date teaching tools and the campus is beautiful complete with football field, tennis courts, soccer field, and then some. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
