Ragersville Elementary School

Ragersville Elementary School is a K–6 school serving about 145 students in the small rural community of Sugarcreek, Ohio (Tuscarawas County), and it is one of four elementary schools in Garaway Local. Its single clearest strength is attendance: only 1.3% of students were chronically absent in 2025–26, the lowest rate of any school in its comparison group and roughly a quarter of its district's 5.9% rate. That helped place the school 330th of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools — the 79th percentile, or 4 stars.

Students generally outperform the state: across nine tested areas, proficiency averaged 79.1%, versus 62.1% statewide. Results are strongest in grades 5 and 6 — sixth-grade math reached 95.5%, about 39 points above the state average — while grades 3 and 4 post the district's lowest results in several subjects, and fifth-grade science dropped from 100% to 76.2%. Overall, the school has slipped against its own recent standard, from 5-star results at the 95th percentile in 2022–23 to 4 stars at the 79th percentile in 2025–26, the lowest of the ten years reviewed. It now sits essentially level with Baltic Elementary (328th) and Miller Avenue Elementary (321st), but behind Dundee Elementary (166th), the district's consistent leader, and well behind the nearby East Holmes schools Chestnut Ridge Elementary (21st in the state) and Walnut Creek Elementary.

Two things are worth watching. The student-teacher ratio roughly doubled, from 11.5 in 2022–23 to 20.7 in 2024–25 — now the second-highest in the comparison set — which coincides with the slide in ranking. And male students have ranked in the 63rd–65th percentile with 3 stars for three straight years, below the school's overall standing, making that gap the most actionable finding in the data. With roughly 20 students per grade, single-year swings deserve caution.
