Meigs Middle School

Meigs Middle School serves roughly 350 students in grades 6–8 in Pomeroy, a small community in rural southeastern Ohio, and is the only middle school in the Meigs Local district. In 2025–26 it ranked 667th of 1,046 Ohio middle schools — the 36th percentile, 2 stars — which is actually better than its district's own standing (20th percentile, 1 star), suggesting the middle grades are a relative bright spot locally.

Compared with nearby schools, Meigs is the lowest-ranked of its peer group and the only one not gaining ground. Athens Middle School sits in the 74th percentile with 4 stars, Federal Hocking Middle School has climbed to the 46th percentile, and River Valley Middle School is near the 52nd. Meigs has stayed between the 29th and 39th percentile for an entire decade. It also has the highest chronic absenteeism of the four (33.7%, about one in three students), though that is down from 41.3% four years ago. Class sizes have improved to 14.5 students per teacher, still about 25% larger than Athens' and Federal Hocking's.
