Summary

Georgetown Elementary School is a PK–6 school serving 549 students in Georgetown, Ohio, a small Brown County community, and it is by far the largest building in the Georgetown Exempted Village district. On the state's 2025–26 rankings it placed 576th of 1,560 Ohio elementaries — 63rd percentile, or three stars — up from the 47th percentile a decade ago, though it has plateaued slightly below the 70th percentile it reached in 2022–23.

Science is the school's signature strength: fifth graders scored 77.5% proficient versus 62.7% statewide, the fourth straight year well above the state and three of those years by more than 20 points. Attendance is the other standout story. Chronic absenteeism fell from 17.7% in 2023–24 to 9.7% in 2025–26 — better than the district's 13.1% and second-best among ten nearby elementaries — even though 57.6% of students were economically disadvantaged in 2023–24. That work shows up in the results: the school ranks in the 87th percentile statewide, top 15% in Ohio, for how well it serves low-income students. In 2025–26, eight of nine tested subjects landed at or above the state average, including a striking jump in sixth grade English (72.4% versus 56.0% statewide).

Two areas warrant attention. Special education students ranked 33rd percentile (two stars) in 2025–26, down from 47th the year before, and girls have consistently outperformed boys on the state's effectiveness measure, with a gap ranging from 13 to 30 percentile points over three years. Locally, two nearby schools show what is possible: Williamsburg Elementary School (92nd percentile, five stars) and Russellville Elementary School (89th percentile) outperform Georgetown on nearly every academic measure, while Georgetown beats Monroe Elementary School, Mt Orab Primary Elementary School and several others. Its student-to-teacher ratio of 17.1 is better than most neighbors and has improved for three straight years.
