Summary

Ella P. Stewart Academy for Girls is an all-girls PK–6 public elementary school in Toledo, Ohio, serving 213 students as part of the Toledo City School District, which ranks 662nd of 773 Ohio districts (14th percentile, 1 star). Ella P. Stewart Academy for Girls ranked 1169th of 1560 statewide in 2025–2026 (25th percentile, 1 star), and its statewide percentile has risen gradually over the past decade, from the 16th–18th range in 2016–2019 to the 23rd–25th range in 2024–2026. Its effectiveness rating for students from lower-income families was 28th percentile statewide (1 star) in 2025–2026.

Early-grade instruction is the school's clearest strength. In 2025–2026, 65.5% of third graders were proficient in math — above the district's 27.9% and the state's 62.1%, and higher than every nearby school listed, including Marshall STEMM Academy, Sherman Elementary School, Martin Luther King Academy for Boys Elementary School, Pickett Elementary School, Robinson Elementary School and Walbridge Elementary School. Third-grade ELA (58.6%) and fourth-grade ELA (55.3%) also beat the district and most nearby schools; only L. Hollingworth School for Talented and Gifted was higher in fourth-grade ELA (58.3%). Attendance is another relative strength: 27.3% of students were chronically absent, compared with 39.8% districtwide, and only Escuela SMART Academy (11.9%) was lower among nearby schools.

Upper grades are where the school struggles most. Sixth-grade math proficiency was 14.3% (district 24.0%, state 56.2%), fifth-grade science 23.8% (district 28.1%, state 62.7%), and fifth-grade math 38.1% (district 21.8%, state 59.1%) — above the district but well below the state. Chronic absenteeism has improved since 2021–2022, but more than one in four students still miss significant school time. Per-student spending was $12,726 in 2018–2019, more than any nearby same-district school and far above L. Hollingworth ($7,320), yet L. Hollingworth ranks higher overall (31st percentile, 2 stars). Free/reduced lunch data is blank for recent years, and some grade-level scores come from small cohorts.

Open Quote I think this is a wonderful school. The teachers are caring and teach them well. This is my daughters first year there and I have had no problems. I would suggest this school to anyone who wants their child to have an excellent learning experience. They teach them about who they are and the accomplishments that they have made. I love this school. Close Quote
